Am I Ready for Marriage?

I've been meaning to write a post on marriage and attending my cousin's wedding this past weekend made me think about marriage even more. Wedding season is in full bloom and it is beautiful. But sometimes I question whether or not I will ever get married. I know some people do not desire marriage at all. It is definitely a desire of mine, but how do I know when is the right time to get married? How do I know I am ready for marriage? How do I find someone or be found by someone?

To be honest, I feel as though people who say: "I am not ready yet," are just exempting themselves from the responsibilities of a committed marriage. They want to continue finding themselves. That's cool, I get it but there come's a time when you have to realize that marriage is all about discovering who you are while continually loving someone else. There come's a time, the perfect time, when you realize you are "ready" to commit to someone for the rest of your life. But I do not believe that anyone can be completely "ready" for marriage, or the challenges and the joys that come along with it. I think the deciding factor as to whether you pursue a marriage with someone is if you found someone who you cannot picture doing life without. Because, after all, you are committing a lifetime with this person. To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part.

Marriage is a remarkable illustration of Christ's love for us. It is unconditional love that stays regardless of how ugly things get. It is deciding to remain faithful despite the circumstances. It is facing life together. It is selfless and requires your undivided devotion.

Are you ready to put yourself second? Are you ready to tackle all the challenges that come along? The idea and concept of marriage is beautiful, but you have to consider the requirements to a successful marriage. I cannot say I am 100% ready for marriage because I am still waiting to be found by someone who mutually intends to commit. If you desire to be married one day, do you think you are ready? What can you do now to prepare yourself for marriage?
